Ara Kharazian is the lead economist at Ramp and a leading authority on the AI economy.
At Ramp Economics Lab, Ara leads research on AI’s impact on the global economy. He created and oversees development of Ramp AI Index, the leading measure of business AI adoption, widely cited by media, financial analysts, and White House research.
Ara is a co-author of A New Look at AI’s Impact on Jobs, the first large-scale study to use firm-level spend data to address the jobs impact of artificial intelligence. The study found that the most intensive AI adopters grew employment by 10 percent over the two years following adoption, bringing direct evidence to one of the defining economic debates of the AI era.
Through this work, Ara has helped move the AI discourse from forecasts and anecdotes toward data and observed business behavior. He writes the weekly Econ Lab newsletter and has become a widely cited source for policymakers, financial institutions, and journalists seeking to understand how AI is reshaping business and work. Ara’s research has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The Economist, Bloomberg, The Washington Post, and more.
Prior to Ramp, Ara led economic research at Square and was an economic consultant at Cornerstone Research. A dual citizen of the United States and Armenia, Ara graduated from Tufts University and is based in New York.
